 At least 48 vehicles damaged in road accident on Pune-Bengaluru highway

At least 30 people were injured after a speeding container truck rammed into 48 vehicles at Pune's Navale bridge on Sunday. The bridge is situated on the Pune-Bengaluru highway. 

“A major road accident occurred at Navale bridge on the Pune-Bengaluru highway in Pune in which about 48 vehicles got damaged. Rescue teams from the Pune Fire Brigade and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) have reached the spot,” a Pune Fire Brigade official said. 



According to local media, the brakes of a tanker failed and it collided into several vehicles. During the accident, which reportedly occurred at 9 pm, oil spilled onto the road making it slippery which caused other vehicles to be added to the pileup.

Fire Brigade, Pune Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene of the accident to clear the bridge of the vehicles, many damaged badly.

The fire brigade also sprayed water to clear the bridge of oil and petrol leaking from the vehicles hit by the container truck.

Navle Bridge has been a hotspot of accidents over the past few days. On Friday, a woman was killed after being hit by a speeding car near the bridge on the outer ring road.
